The Crescent Foundation is proud to partner with The Big Issue; an independent, not-for-profit social enterprise that develops solutions to help homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people positively change their lives. We support The Big Issue's 3 key initiatives helping open education and employment opportunities to the homeless and destitute across Australia.
The Big Issue Magazine
We support the production of The Big Issue Magazine, a publication released fortnightly that is provided to and sold for a profit by those experiencing homeless. This gives the homeless a meaningful way to connect with their communities whilst providing them an income.
Women’s Subscription Enterprise
With more than 46,000 Australian women homeless every night without safe or secure housing, we support the Women's Subscription Enterprise in creating employment opportunities for homeless and disadvantaged women who are ready to make a change in their lives. Women are employed to sort and dispatch subscription copies of The Big Issue magazine ready for distribution, helping them gain new skills and the confidence they need to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their children.
Aimed at students, the participants are able to hear first-hand from people who have experienced homelessness disadvantage or disability, helping to breakdown stereotypes in our community. These workshops allow The Big Issue Classroom to employ homeless and disadvantaged people to share their personal stories with participants; offering them an income and the ability of financial sustainability.
